Over the next several weeks, AlexRenew will inspect manholes all over Alexandria.

The inspections will move from east to west across the city, and will occur between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays, according to the utility.

“We do not expect any traffic disruptions,” AlexRenew said on social media.

Last year, the city installed 870 stainless steel manhole cover inserts to help with flooding in the Four Mile Run, Commonwealth and Taylor Run sewer sheds.

“Manhole inserts are one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce inflow into the sanitary sewer system,” AlexRenew said in a release. “Inflow into sanitary sewers can overwhelm the capacity of the sewer system, which can lead to sewer backups in basements.”
