Titans ready for battle: Alexandria City High School football looks to rebound in 2025

Alexandria City High School’s football program continues its 2025 season Thursday when the varsity Titans host Meridian High School at 6:15 p.m. for their home opener, following last week’s season-opening road game at Langley High School.

Head coach Rodney Hughey and his staff are working to improve on last season’s 3-7 overall record and 3-4 Division 6A regional mark. The Titans finished 39th in the state division rankings, providing motivation for the program’s rebound efforts this fall.

The Titans field varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams, providing opportunities for student-athletes to develop skills while representing Alexandria City. The program’s structure allows natural progression from freshman fundamentals to JV competition experience to varsity-level play.

Home opener Thursday

Thursday’s contest against Meridian gives Alexandria City fans their first look at the Titans at home. The 6:15 p.m. kickoff differs from traditional Friday night scheduling.

Road tests ahead

The Titans face challenging road trips including visits to Lake Braddock Secondary (Aug. 28), which defeated Alexandria City 41-13 last season, plus games at Fairfax High School and South County High School.

Home schedule highlights

Alexandria City plays six home games, including matchups against traditional rivals West PotomacWest Springfield and John Lewis High School. Notable dates include the Oct. 10 West Potomac game and a Halloween night showdown with West Springfield on Oct. 31.
