Sometimes getting all wet can be exactly what you need.

On Friday (Aug. 29), Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities is celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Minnie Howard Aquatics Facility. The family friendly event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and includes free activities, live music and giveaways.

The 25-meter competition pool is located at Alexandria City High School’s Minnie Howard Campus at 3795 Braddock Road. The pool has diving boards and a training pool and is open to the public during off-school hours.

Minnie Howard founded the first PTA in the city in 1912, and was also Alexandria’s first probation officer. She established the first children’s home and helped open the first public playground in the city, according to RPCA.
