Saturday kicks off with the Old Town Farmers’ Market at 7 a.m. at Market Square Plaza, followed by the Del Ray Farmers’ Market an hour later at Pat Miller Neighborhood Square. Fitness enthusiasts can join Murphy’s Saturday Run at 8:30 a.m. or participate in “Fitness At The Brewery” at Aslin ALX starting at 10 a.m. The day also features creative workshops, including candle making at PlantHouse and calligraphy at Ellen Coolidge Burke Branch Library.
Music lovers can catch performances throughout the city Saturday night, with the Bill Pappas Project at 219 Restaurant, the Knox Engler Band at Alexandria Bier Garden, and The Bacon Brothers with Pernikoff Brothers at The Birchmere. Multiple venues are hosting karaoke, including Hops N Shine and Rock It Grill.
Sunday continues the community spirit with three farmers markets opening by 9 a.m., including the West End Farmers Market at Brenman Park and Four Mile Run Farmers’ Market. The Evening Star Cafe presents “Rock Del Ray July Concert” featuring three local bands starting at 6 p.m., while The Birchmere hosts folk legend Judy Collins at 7:30 p.m.
The Alexandria library system offers programming both days, from oddball cinema screenings to a “Science Behind Harry Potter” presentation on Sunday. City-sponsored events include specialty historical tours and the Duke Street Land Use Plan Pop-Up on Sunday morning for residents interested in community planning.
