DASH bus mascot named ‘Dashy’ after community vote

Alexandria’s public transit system has named its new mascot “Dashy” following a community vote that drew more than 250 participants.

The Alexandria Transit Company (DASH) announced Tuesday that Dashy received 37% of the votes in an online contest that ran from July 3 to 18. The other options were Duke (29%), Dasher (19%), and Alex (16%).

DASH unveiled the mascot in April as part of a broader rebranding effort that included updated logos. The company stated that the changes represent growth alongside riders and the Alexandria community, while maintaining its founding principles.

The transit agency has been operating in Alexandria for over 40 years, providing bus service throughout the city.

DASH said additional activities involving the mascot are planned, but did not provide specifics.
