Adoptable Dog of the Week: Meet Connie, the playful pup still looking for her forever home

Despite being “cute as a button” and possessing all the charm of a young puppy, Connie has been waiting at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) for her forever family to find her. The 37-pound black and white pup, who came to the shelter as a local stray, is ready to bring joy and energy to the right household.

At just 10 months old, Connie embodies everything people love about puppies—she’s playful, affectionate, and eager to please. Her favorite pastimes include chasing squeaky toys (which “hate to see this playful pup coming,” according to AWLA), going on walks and runs, and being the center of attention with new people she meets.

“Connie loves meeting new people and being the center of attention,” AWLA shared. “Like most puppies, she’s an active gal and loves going on walks, runs, hikes, and playing in the yard.”

For families with existing dogs, Connie could be an ideal addition. She’s proven to be “a lovely puppy playmate for another energetic canine companion,” making her a great choice for households looking to add a second four-legged family member.

Training has been going exceptionally well for Connie during her time at the shelter. She’s mastered basic commands like sitting on cue, takes treats gently, and has been learning clicker training techniques. Her motivation? Food—particularly hot dogs, which are her absolute favorite treat.

“She is also a gentle dog who does a perfect sit on cue and takes treats softly from your hand,” AWLA notes. “And training should go smoothly as I am very treat-motivated.”

Expected to grow into a medium to large-sized dog, Connie would make an excellent companion for active individuals or families who enjoy outdoor activities. Whether it’s hiking local trails, going for morning runs, or simply exploring the neighborhood, this energetic pup is ready for adventure.

The timing couldn’t be better for potential adopters. Connie’s adoption fee has been sponsored through Sunday, July 13, as part of AWLA’s Red, White & Woof Adoption Event. All dogs weighing 40 pounds or more (and those just under, like Connie) have waived adoption fees during this special promotion.

Connie will be spayed before going to her new home, ensuring she’s ready for the next chapter of her life. Those interested in meeting this spirited pup can visit AWLA or view her full profile online.

For a young dog with so much love to give, Connie represents the perfect blend of puppy playfulness and trainable intelligence. Her ideal family will appreciate her active nature and be ready to provide the exercise, attention, and affection she craves.
