Heat Advisory postpones Wednesday’s Community Cookout, future events moved indoors

Due to a heat advisory in effect for Alexandria, the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) has postponed the next stop on their 18th Annual Community Cookout Series.

The cookout had been scheduled for Wednesday (June 25) at the Andrew Adkins Public Housing Community Center (1200 Block of Wythe Street).

Celebrating its 18th Annual Community Cookout Series, this marks the fifth time this year that RPCA has had to cancel a cookout due to weather. With free food, games, and more, the annual series of cookouts began in late April, aiming to connect residents with their city government and leaders.

There was just one more community cookout scheduled following Andrew Adkins. Due to the past cancellations and the ongoing heat, RPCA has added a few more cookouts and moved them indoors.

“We’ve scheduled three more community cookouts — and due to the extreme temperatures, they’ll be held indoors so everyone can stay cool and safe. The next cookout will take place at Fairlington Presbyterian Church at 6 p.m. next week, Tuesday, July 1.”

All cookouts run from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
