Want to get rid of extra furniture?
Rick Schneider of Magpie Reclamations (2020 E. Custis Avenue) in Del Ray recently launched a new home clear-out and junk removal service. The Department of Junking offers customers a complimentary consultation on transitioning their old furniture into the secondhand market, thereby diverting it from landfills.
“If you call me today and say, ‘I’ve got a full house. I don’t know anything about what’s in here, but I need it gone in five days so I can sell this house,’ our team will come in,” Schneider said. “We will categorize those items with the goal of diverting 90% of the items in that house from the landfill. We’re recycling, upcycling, and repurposing items to make the trip to the dump as small as possible.”
Schneider has partnered with LPZ Deliveries to haul away the furniture, and says he is available anywhere in Northern Virginia. He also said that there’s no job too big or too small.
“I can come out to any site in the DMV and provide a free consultation,” he said. “If there’s an item that catches our eye that we’d love to have in our store, we tend to offer a rebate on that item. So, you’ll get a discount on the remainder of the services on that particular item. If that rebate number doesn’t appeal to you, we’re happy to take it to auction or do anything else that the client may need with regard to that particular item.”
