Groundbreaking for Eugene Simpson Stadium Park renovation is this Saturday

Alexandria is set to break ground on improvements to Eugene Simpson Stadium Park.

Construction will result in a phased reopening of the park, with a full reopening scheduled for August 2026. The groundbreaking will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, according to the city.

Park improvements include:

  • Planting a native tree buffer along the E. Duncan Alleyway
  • Extending hardscape trails to the park’s northeast section
  • Adding ADA-compliant access from E. Monroe to the dog park and rectangular fields
  • Installing new bleachers at Big and Little Simpson
  • Upgrading dugouts at both fields
  • Adding new storage space at Big Simpson
  • Building a dedicated concessions stand at Big Simpson
  • Creating a passive use and picnic area adjacent to the concession stand
  • Enhancing traffic flow and expanding the parking lot
  • Installing synthetic turf at Big Simpson to improve drainage and playability
  • Re-grading the natural turf field at Little Simpson to resolve drainage issues
