The Alexandria City High School Gxrls Ultimate Frisbee Team is making history this weekend as they compete in their first-ever High School National Invite tournament.
This prestigious event, featuring 32 of the nation’s top high school ultimate teams, is taking place Friday (June 13) and Saturday (June 14) in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Alexandria City, currently ranked 14th nationally by Ultiworld, has earned a spot in this elite competition for the first time. They’re set to face off against teams from Washington, California, Oregon, and Utah.
The team is thrilled about this opportunity, seeing it as a chance to showcase their hard work and dedication this season. To make it happen, they’ve had to overcome some financial hurdles.
The tournament bid fee alone was $1,500, not to mention additional costs for travel, lodging, and food. Since the team doesn’t receive school funding, they turned to the community for support through a GoFundMe campaign.
Thanks to generous donations, they were able to cover the bid fees and hotel costs completely—a significant achievement for the program.
The tournament features both boys’ and girls’ divisions. The games kicked off on Friday morning, with bracket play continuing through Saturday evening. The girls division championship game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.
