Big dogs, big love, no fees: AWLA hosts “Splish, Splash Adoption Bash” this weekend

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) is hosting a special adoption event this weekend, waiving fees for larger dogs to help them find homes more quickly.

Their “Splish, Splash Big Dog Adoption Bash” runs from June 6-8 and covers all pups weighing 40 pounds or more.

The AWLA points out that medium and large dogs often spend the most time in shelters, and that’s certainly true for them. If you’re interested in adopting, you can stop by the shelter (4101 Eisenhower Ave.) on Friday between noon and 7 p.m., or on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Keep in mind that some of the dogs up for adoption are currently staying with foster families. If you have your eye on a specific pooch, you can set up a meet-and-greet by emailing [email protected] or calling 703-746-4774.
