Amid a critical nationwide blood shortage – the worst in two decades – Alexandria residents have two opportunities this week to donate blood and help save lives at upcoming community drives.
The World Mission Society Church of God is hosting a community blood drive on Thursday (May 1). It will run from 5 to 9 p.m. at 1501 Duke Street.
The church emphasizes the urgent need for blood and platelet donations to keep lifesaving medical procedures on track. This drive is part of their ongoing emergency relief campaign, which aims to raise awareness and bring the community together.
Inova Blood Services is organizing a second drive on Saturday, May 3. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (100 West Luray).
Inova is giving donors a “Heroes Supporting Heroes” t-shirt as a thank you. They’re encouraging locals to sign up, reminding everyone that a single donation can save up to three lives in the community.
