Alexandria Chamber of Commerce unveils 2025 Community Champions

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce (The Chamber ALX) is gearing up to honor the city’s workforce at its upcoming Community Champions event.

The ceremony will take place on May 22, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Belle Haven Country Club (6023 Fort Hunt Road).

Sharon Phox, a third-grade teacher at James K. Polk Elementary School, is this year’s Educator of the Year. She’s being recognized for her work with new teachers, leadership in professional development, and efforts to bring families and community members into the fold.

The Government Employee of the Year award goes to Esperita J. Bullard, Chief of Customer Relations at Alexandria’s Department of Community and Human Services. Bullard is being honored for her work on food security initiatives.

Jeffry Alberto, General Manager of Tequila & Taco of HomeGrown Restaurant Group, is named Hospitality Employee of the Year. Alberto’s impressive climb from dishwasher to general manager over 10 years caught the Chamber’s attention.

Dr. David Weintritt, who founded the National Breast Center Foundation, is receiving the Health Professional of the Year award. He’s being recognized for providing free cancer services to those who are medically underserved.

Senior Services of Alexandria’s Tesfaye Reta is being honored as Senior Provider of the Year. As Outreach Coordinator and Staff Driver, Reta has made significant strides in connecting with Alexandria’s Amharic-speaking community.

Heather Kerr of AlexRenew is named Utility Employee of the Year for her work in developing and implementing the Operational Training Program.
