Cyclist critically injured on Eisenhower Avenue, prompting road closure

A bicyclist is facing life-threating injuries following a vehicle/bicyclist collision on Friday morning on Eisenhower Avenue.

The crash happened on the eastbound side of Eisenhower Avenue, forcing police to close the road between South Van Dorn Street and Metro Road.

Alexandria Police posted about the road closure on social media at 7:43 a.m., saying the cyclist had been taken to the hospital.

The driver involved in the collision stayed at the scene.

The Alexandria Police Department’s Crash Team is now looking into what happened.

So far, police haven’t shared any details about who was involved or exactly how the crash occurred.

Update: At approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Alexandria Police put out the following request for help regarding the collision;

APD is asking for your help in the investigation of a vehicle collision with a bicyclist that occurred this morning on Eisenhower Ave. & Metro Rd at aprox. 7:05 am. If you witnessed this incident or have video footage, please call Crash Team Investigator Schipanov 703-746-1954.
