Local goods shop Made in ALX reopening this weekend in new Old Town home

Local goods shop Made in ALX is opening up in a new location this Saturday.

Made in ALX announced in a release that a new store and workshop space will open on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 415 King Street.

“Made in ALX is a unique marketplace dedicated to showcasing and selling art and handmade products crafted by 50 Alexandria-based artists. Items include jewelry, ceramics, glass, woodworks, original art, candles and much more,” the release said. “In addition, Made in ALX has become known for creative workshops and classes, free craft events for kids, and hosting artist pop-ups.”

The shop is owned by co-founder Beth Lawton, who also publishes and co-founded Alexandria Living Magazine.

The release said the shop started in 2020 when two women wanted a way to connect residents with local artists, creators and makers during the pandemic.

“In 2021, Made in ALX opened a pop-up shop in Old Town for the holiday season, which was so successful that the organization started to look for long-term space,” the release said. “The store was open for more than two years in Old Town North (at 533 Montgomery St.) before this move to 415 King St., and it is now owned by co-founder Beth Lawton.”

The new location is scheduled to open on Saturday, Nov. 16, with a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
