A fire at an apartment building in the Landmark area is under control, though the Alexandria Fire Department is still working to remove smoke from the building.
According to the scanner, smoke was detected on the 12th and 13th floor of 6301 Stevenson Avenue around 2:45 p.m. today (Monday).
IAFF Local 2141 tweeted it was a multiple alarm fire and a mayday was declared by a disoriented firefighter. Scanner traffic indicated several residents were evacuated with trouble breathing.
“The firefighter was quickly located and assisted from the structure,” IAFF local 2141 tweeted. “Several injuries have been reported by occupants and Firefighters.”
Five people — two residents and three firefighters — were injured in the blaze, and 25 residents from 17 apartments were displaced, according to AFD.
The fire appears to have been “accidental,” according to APD.
“The investigation into the incident continues,” AFD said in a release.
IAFF tweeted at 3:55 p.m. that the fire was under control.
Multiple alarm fire- Engine 210 and Truck 208 responded to an odor of smoke in a high rise in the 6300 Block of Stevenson Avenue. Companies arrived locating a well advanced fire on the 12th floor. The high rise assignment was dispatched and a second alarm was declared.
