The City of Alexandria wants Old Town residents to make some noise.
The Alexandria is hosting a virtual open house this month to discuss South of Airport Noise Mitigation Project, a project aimed at developing recommendations to modify flight procedures to reduce aircraft noise impacts on communities south of National Airport.
Part of that project has been gathering feedback from locals on the noise impacts — though some reported that, on finishing the multi-page survey, they were told at the very end that “The maximum number of responses has been received” so take that with a grain of salt.
The virtual open house is scheduled for Thursday, June 27, at 6 p.m. on Zoom.
According to a release:
During the virtual community open house, Vianair Consulting staff will provide an overview of the project and its various components. Staff will also be in attendance to answer questions community members may have about the project.
In addition to the open house, Vianair Consulting has launched a public survey to receive community feedback on current conditions and concerns related to airport noise. This survey will remain open for community input until after all participating jurisdictions host their respective community open house meetings.
…The South of Airport Noise Mitigation Project began in May 2023 when the City of Alexandria, in coordination with Fairfax County and Prince George’s County, entered a two-year airport noise study with Vianair Consulting. The goal of the study is to work together to develop recommendations to modify flight procedures in an effort to reduce aircraft noise impacts in communities south of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
The airport noise study includes collaborations and engagement with residents, staff representatives from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the MWAA-sponsored DCA community Working Group (CWG).
