Food trucks in Alexandria can officially stay open until midnight.

The City Council voted unanimously to extend food truck hours from the current 8 p.m. to midnight, expanding on staff’s recommendation to push hours back to 11 p.m.

The Council approved the ordinance with little discussion, most of that having taken place at earlier meetings.

“Free the food trucks,” City Council Member Canek Aguirre said at a meeting in April. “I’ve always thought that our ordinance was a little bit too restrictive. coming from L.A., some of the best food I’ve ever eaten has been out of a food truck.”
