APD: 23-year-old woman murdered in the West End

(Updated at 12 p.m.) The Alexandria Police Department has ruled the death of a 23-year-old black woman in the West End as a homicide.

Police responded to a call for service at the 40 block of South Van Dorn Street on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at approximately 2:40 p.m. In a press release, police said upon arriving they found a 23-year-old black female deceased in her apartment. Today (Wednesday), police said a medical examiner ruled the cause of death to be homicide.

Police released no other information about the incident and withheld the victim’s name at the family’s request.

“This incident is currently under investigation, and we are asking anyone with any information relating to this case to please contact Detective Michael Whelan by phone at 703.746.6228, email at [email protected]gov, or use APD’s non-emergency number at 703.746.4444,” Police said in a press release. “Tips and information can be made anonymously.”

This is the second homicide of the year in Alexandria.
