Safe Space NOVA and the City of Alexandria Office of the Arts are pleased to announce their fifth regional pride prom Starry Night. The local nonprofit organization benefiting LGBTQIA+ youth is hosting the queer, trans, and neurodivergent inclusive prom on June 26th in partnership with the City of Alexandria Office of the Arts at the Torpedo Factory Arts Center from 7-11 p.m.
This Student Ambassador-organized Pride Prom is unique in that it combines Action (LGBTQ+ advocacy), Compassion (quiet room with books/board games and volunteer crisis counselors available), Education (local affirming organizations will be on hand sharing information), and Celebration (it’s a prom and celebration, after all!).
The event is open to all ticketed students (Ages 13-20) in Northern Virginia and the surrounding region (e.g., Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.). Admission includes food, drinks, cannoli station by Mia’s Italian Kitchen of Alexandria, photography, Art Activation Stations with Torpedo Factor Artists, prom favors and features the talents of DJ Nova North, Kirby the Drag Queen, and Mas! The safety and wellbeing of our attendees is our utmost priority. All volunteers have been vetted and security will be on hand throughout the event, where our volunteers are dedicated to assisting youth to arrive safely at prom with smiles and glitter. The event would not be possible without the support of the City of Alexandria Office of the Arts as well as community donors. If anyone in the public is interested in making a tax-deductible donation or have questions, please contact [email protected]. “The student ambassadors chose the theme “Starry Night” because the night sky serves as a reminder that even in times of uncertainty, light can still be found. Through images of skylines, shooting stars, and constellations, the theme celebrates resilience, possibility, and the connections that help guide us forward. “Starry Night” invites LGBTQ+ youth to spend an evening dreaming boldly, finding community, and recognizing that every star shines brightest when it is part of something larger.” says Co-Executive Director, Leo Augustus Miller.
