Fall is just around the corner, and that means poetry readings are back in Del Ray. Join us Friday, Sept. 5, 7-9pm, at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub, 2300 Mt. Vernon Ave. Our featured poet is Rob Senkel, a local resident and Afghanistan War veteran whose work focuses on resilience, perseverance, healing, and love. He is also known as “Bubblegum’s Dad” — a reference to his goofball Labrador retriever, beloved by the Del Ray neighborhood for her gentle and healing demeanor. The theme of the evening will be, “Love Letters for a Troubled World”. It comes from the title of a poem Rob wrote honoring a friend’s battle with cancer. After Rob’s presentation, all are invited to read their poems on any topic during the open-mic portion of the evening. The event is free and open to the public.
