Titans stay unbeaten with 23-21 win over Woodson

The Alexandria City Titans overcame a sluggish start to defeat C.G. Woodson 23-21 on Friday night, rallying from a 14-7 first-quarter deficit to remain unbeaten.

Woodson jumped out early with 14 first-quarter points while Alexandria City managed just one touchdown. The game remained scoreless through the second and third quarters.

The Titans broke the game open in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 points to take a 23-14 lead. Woodson answered with a touchdown of its own, but the late rally wasn’t enough.

The victory improved Alexandria City to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Virginia High School League Division 6A District 4 play, maintaining their hold on first place in the district standings. The Titans have now outscored opponents 179-67 this season, including a forfeit win over Lake Braddock (32-0) and victories over Potomac Senior (42-6), Crossland (42-8), and Lewis (71-0).

Woodson dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in district play with the loss.

West Springfield (3-0 district) and Fairfax (2-0 district) remain unbeaten in league play behind Alexandria City, while West Potomac, South County, and Robinson continue to search for their first district victories.

The Titans will look to extend their winning streak when they host West Potomac (1-3) on Oct. 10.
