Join us this September, International Underground Railroad Month, to celebrate the release of American Change Agent: A Life & Legacy of Seeking Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion with co-authors Dr. John and Ananda Leeke. The event will be September 18th from 6-8PM and the ALX Community – Waterfront location.
Dr. Leeke’s ancestors escaped slavery through Maryland’s Underground Railroad to freedom in Canada. Now 85, he has spent six decades breaking barriers in education and corporate America. Co-written with his daughter, their powerful memoir chronicles their family’s 150-year journey from bondage to boardrooms.
September honors the enduring legacy of the Underground Railroad, including the escapes of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman. Drawing on their family’s history, the authors will share stories that connect Maryland’s historic network of freedom seekers to today’s ongoing pursuit of justice.
These individuals have a rich history in the fight for social justice, beginning long before the current conversations surrounding DEI. Don’t miss this chance to hear their remarkable story and take part in a conversation that spans generations of resilience, courage, and change.
