Local businesses join forces for inaugural Tavern Square Art Fair

Kismet Modern Indian restaurant (111 North Pitt Street) and Made in ALX (415 King Street) are teaming up to host the Tavern Square Art Fair on May 17.

This free event, open to all ages, will showcase over a dozen artists offering hands-on experiences like live portraits, cookie decorating, and face painting. Local nonprofits will also participate, including the Office of Historic Alexandria and Volunteer Alexandria.

A key feature of the fair is a community art project backed by Williams Professional Painting. Visitors can paint small canvases around the theme “The Best Thing About Living Here.”

“The unique centerpiece of the event will be the opportunity for attendees to participate in a community art project, where each participant will receive a 4×4-inch individual canvas to paint,” Made in ALX shares in a press release. “The theme for the community art project is “The Best Thing About Living Here”. All ages can participate”.

The canvases will be displayed at Made in ALX from late May through Alexandria’s Birthday Celebration on July 13, 2025.

Del Ray’s Rock of Ages Music will provide live entertainment throughout the day, adding to the artistic atmosphere.

The Tavern Square Art Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the courtyard behind Made in ALX and Kismet Modern Indian. You can access the area from the 400 block of King or Cameron streets, or the 100 blocks of North Pitt or North Royal streets.
