Alexandria Police take twenty local youth to Wizards game

The Alexandria Police Department is strengthening its ties with local youth by bonding over basketball.

Officers from the department’s Neighborhood Resource Unit teamed up with the Charles Houston Recreation Center on Wednesday night to bring more than 20 Alexandria kids to a Washington Wizards game.

This outing is part of the police department’s ongoing efforts to connect with the community.

“It’s all about building relationships,” the department shared on Facebook Thursday.

The group watched the Wizards take on the Jazz, which happened to be a G-Wiz bobblehead giveaway night. Many of the young attendees are basketball players themselves, having faced off against the police department in a summer game at the Charles Houston Recreation Center.

In a close match, the Wizards edged out the Jazz with a final score of 125-122. This win bumped the Wizards’ record to 12-49, while the Jazz dropped to 15-47.

The Alexandria Police Department thanked the Washington Wizards and the Washington Metropolitan Police Department for helping make the event happen.
