Red Barn Mercantile and sister shops to kick off the season with 18th annual Holiday Unveiling

Old Town retailer Red Barn Mercantile is wasting no time getting ready for the holiday season.

Red Barn Mercantile (1117 King Street) will host its 18th annual Holiday Unveiling from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 5) along with owner Amy Rutherford’s other stores, Penny Post (1201 King Street) and Pippin Toy Co. (1310 King Street).

After Halloween, Red Barn Mercantile is closing for three days this week to prepare for Thursday’s event. At the Holiday Unveiling, the store will display 10 Christmas trees and other seasonal decor. Customers can also enjoy sparkling wine from DCanter as well as bites and sweet treats from pastry chef and flower farmer Alex Mudry-Till of Quince Blossom Ridge. A custom party favor from local lettering artist Michele Hatty Fritz of Meant To Be Calligraphy will be provided to all customers.

All three stores will stay open late and treat customers to holiday displays and special discounts between 15% and 30%.

“We can’t wait to share the magic of the season with our community,” Rutherford said. “This is our favorite night of the year, and we are so excited to show off what we created. In our humble opinion, it is something truly wonderful.”

For customers who can’t make Thursday’s event in person, Red Barn Mercantile’s holiday collection will debut online when the store opens. The same event discounts will be provided online.

Additional holiday events will begin to appear in Alexandria throughout November, including Plaid Friday (Alexandria’s small business version of Black Friday) on Nov. 27 and Small Business Saturday on Nov. 28.
