People don’t generally smile when they see zombies, but there were plenty of smiles at the base of King Street on Saturday evening.
A flash mob of about 100 people dressed like zombies performed a dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” as hundreds of spectators gathered around. The event was so crowded that parents hoisted their children up onto their shoulders, and some people watched through their phone cameras held above their heads.
Coldwell Banker Realty real estate agents Barb Scheeler and Rachel Knapp coordinated the event, including hosting rehearsals for the dancers and zombie walkers earlier this month.
“It’s really going to bring an awareness of how fun Old Town is, how Old Town goes way out for Halloween,” Scheeler told ALXnow before the event. “It’s just such a great way for the community to get together and come back and give to a good cause.”
Participants paid a fee to join the flash mob, with a portion of proceeds going to the nonprofit Lucky Dog Animal Rescue.
There were no reported bitings by zombies on Saturday.
