If you’re staying in town this weekend, there’s plenty to look forward to from Alexandria’s lineup of events.
Between the Summer Sidewalk Sale in Old Town, Bands & Brews in Del Ray and the ongoing Alexandria Restaurant Week across the city, there’s no shortage of event options.

Alexandria Summer Sidewalk Sale
When: Friday, Aug. 14 to Sunday, Aug. 16
The Old Town Boutique Community will host its 17th annual Alexandria Summer Sidewalk Sale from Friday, Aug. 14 to Sunday, Aug. 16 at participating boutiques. Dozens of independent boutiques will offer merchandise displays on the sidewalk and their deepest discounts of the season, and some will have extra promotions or activities for shoppers. Hours vary by store.

Alexandria Restaurant Week
When: Friday, Aug. 14 to Sunday, Aug. 23
Full-service restaurants will serve prix fixe dinner menus at $35, $45 or $55 per person, and fast casual restaurants will have their own offers. A flip book of restaurant week menus is available at AlexandriaRestaurantWeek.com.

Bands & Brews Bar Crawl
When: 12:30-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15
Hosted by the Del Ray Business Association, this bar crawl features food and drink specials and live music at more than 20 restaurants. Ticketholders get access to specials, raffles, a costume contest, trolley transportation and more. The event will provide a portion of proceeds to The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, which provides scholarships and personalized college advising to students seeking college, career and technical education.

Plow Fields to Battlefields – The Sacrifice of Two Ohioans in the Civil War
When: 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15
Learn the stories of Martin Swick and James Luman, Civil War soldiers who died in the Lee-Fendall House and are buried at Alexandria National Cemetery. These were among the Civil War soldiers at the Lee-Fendall House, which was the Grosvenor Branch Hospital between 1863 and 1865. The featured speaker is veteran Brent Reidenbach, who has researched his relation to Swick as well as the connections of other Civil War soldiers. Tickets are $15 for the public and free for museum members.

LIVE at the Lyceum: Fifth Floor Concert
When: 3-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16
Join the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Association for the latest show in the 36th Annual Summer Sundays Chamber Music Series, LIVE at the Lyceum. Fifth Floor features Eric Abalahin on flute, Laurel Kuxhaus on oboe, Chris Epinger on clarinet, Nancy Switkes on bassoon and Jim McIntyre on horn. The series is held every Sunday at 3 pm June through August. No tickets are required, but a $25 donation is suggested.
