Old Town stationery store Penny Post is getting ready for its biggest day of the year.
Penny Post (1201 King Street) will hold its fifth annual Stationery Store Day, an in-store-only event to celebrate all things pen, paper and analog. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1.
“Stationery Store Day is our favorite day of the year,” Penny Post owner Amy Rutherford said. “It’s a chance to say thank you to the community that keeps handwritten notes, fountain pens, and beautiful paper alive.”
At Stationery Day, the first 100 people who spend at least $50 will get a bundle of pens, stickers and cards valued at $50 or more. Customers who spend $175 get the bundle and a Pilot Explorer fountain pen with cartridges and Japanese paper. Other promotions include two tiers of free gifts with a purchase, a raffle with stationery-inspired prizes and limited-edition Stationery Store Day merchandise in store.
Rutherford anticipates Stationery Day will draw a line outside Penny Post. Customers are asked to form a line at the corner of Fayette and King Streets at the store entrance. Neighboring Ms. Moxie’s Moon Shop (102 N. Fayette Street) will work with Penny Post to offer waiting customers live entertainment, shelter from the heat, cold drinks and snacks.
August will have several other events for Old Town shoppers — Old Town Boutique District’s Tax-Free Weekend (Aug. 7-9) and Sidewalk Sale (Aug. 14).
