Titans football off to perfect start in 2025

The Alexandria City High School Titans football team has opened the 2025 season with four consecutive victories, sitting atop the Virginia High School League Division 6A District 4.

The Titans have dominated opponents with their most recent victory coming Sept. 19 in a 71-0 rout of Lewis High School. The performance marked the team’s second shutout of the season and came on the same night the school celebrated the 25th anniversary of the film “Remember the Titans.”

Alexandria City opened the campaign Aug. 28 with a 32-0 forfeit victory over Lake Braddock, followed by wins against Potomac Senior (42-6) and Crossland (42-8). The Sept. 19 victory against Lewis occurred as 40 members of the 1971 state championship team gathered at the school for anniversary festivities.

According to Virginia High School League standings, Alexandria City leads Division 6A District 4 with a 4-0 overall record and 1-0 district mark.

West Springfield (2-2, 2-0 district) and Fairfax (2-2, 1-0 district) trail in district standings despite perfect district records. Lake Braddock sits at 2-1 overall but 0-1 in district play following their forfeit loss to Alexandria City. South County (1-2), Woodson (1-2), West Potomac (1-2) and Robinson (0-3) round out Division 6A District 4.

The 1971 T.C. Williams team finished 13-0 and defeated Andrew Lewis High School 27-0 in the state championship game. Bob Luckett, an offensive lineman on that team, said Friday that the squad “had nine shut-outs” and “held three teams to negative rushing yardage.”

The current Titans face Woodson on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m., followed by home games against West Potomac (Oct. 10), Robinson (Oct. 24) and West Springfield (Oct. 31). Road games at Fairfax (Oct. 17) and South County (Nov. 7) complete the district schedule.
