Adoptable Dog of the Week: Max seeks loyal companion for cuddles, belly rubs

Max knows what he wants in life: a fenced yard to lounge in, puzzle toys to solve, and a devoted human to lean against for scratches behind his perfectly mismatched ears.

The 3-year-old, 73-pound tan and black mixed breed at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria describes himself as more of a cuddler than a long-distance walker. This social, people-loving pup has already mastered the commands for sit and down, and his treat-motivated nature means there’s no limit to what he could learn with the right person.

“He frequently sidles up for some pets and scratches,” said Maria Stebbins, an AWLA volunteer. “If you are looking for a constant, sweet-faced companion, then Max could be your dog.”

Max’s ideal day involves working puzzle toys, chewing bones, and hanging out in the shade of a fenced yard with his favorite human nearby. He’s an affectionate leaner who signals his readiness for attention by gently pressing against his people.

The handsome boy would prefer a home without small dogs or cats, though he’d be happy to meet any laid-back canine siblings before heading to his new home.

Max is available for adoption at AWLA, located at 4101 Eisenhower Ave. His adoption ID is A097949. For more information, visit alexandriaanimals.org or call 703-746-4774.
