Alexandria Children’s Chorus seeks new singers for milestone 10th season

The Alexandria Children’s Chorus is accepting new members for its 10th season, with rehearsals beginning Tuesday, Aug. 26, and no audition required for participants.

The community chorus welcomes children in kindergarten through sixth grade to join its non-competitive singing program, which aims to develop musicianship skills while enriching the local community. Students do not need to live in Alexandria to participate.

Rehearsals begin Tuesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. New singers may visit rehearsals through Tuesday, Sept. 23, to determine if the program is a good fit.

“Scholarships are available — financial need will never be a barrier to participation in the Alexandria Children’s Chorus,” according to a press release from the organization.

The chorus was founded in 2015 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit originally called The Del Ray Kinderchoir. It bills itself as Alexandria’s only children’s community chorus.

The group performs American and international folk music as well as classical repertoire. It presents two standalone concerts annually in October and April and has performed at community events including Art on the Avenue and the Del Ray Christmas Tree Lighting.

Most recently, the chorus was featured in the One Voice Alexandria Choral Festival at Schlesinger Hall in May 2025, performing alongside more than 400 singers from seven other Alexandria-based choirs.

Dr. Benjamin Hutchens serves as the artistic director, and Dr. Jason Gottschalk serves as the executive director.

Parents can register their children at www.alexandriachildrenschorus.org. The organization can also be found on Facebook and Instagram at @alexandria.childrens.chorus.
